FIRST BURIAL: James J. Mathews, Sept 17 1873. Owner of the American Hotel
1873-1874: People originally buried in Truckee Burying Grounds (Located on South Hill, East of Hwy 267, no markers, possibly now under Winter Creek Subdivision) were re-located to new cemetery, exp: William Hill, died 1871 Fire. Parents owned Kinnebec Hotel which burnt during the fire.
