2023, Dec 29: A reminder to our families and visitors. As long as the weather is co-operating we will be keeping the gates open. Please remove all pertinent memorial items before the snows come in. As a reminder; all damage items will be removed and disposed of in the spring. If there is something that you wish to retain, please remove it and place it back in the spring.
September 19: Due to inclement weather the meeting will be held at the Historical Society Research Cabin at 5:00pm, 10115 Donner Trail road.
JULY 2022: The Truckee Cemetery District is currently seeking two new Board Members. Please inquire at info@truckeecemeterydistrict.com
May 17 2022: Please look under "more"-"Events" for the flyer for Memorial Day 2022
May 17 2022: In an attempt to remain transparent, a decision was reached by the board to no longer publish meeting minutes on the website. We are under no legal obligations to do so and as it can take up to 60 days to be approved and signed for publication we are creating a procedure that people can email info@truckeecemeterydistrict.com with a request for a copy of minutes and they will be forwarded as soon as they are approved and signed. Thank you for your understanding.
May 17 2022: A few reminders for our families. We have a full crew this year (YAY!!), so we will be cleaning tattered flowers and items from the graves on a continual basis. The fresh flowers will be removed as soon as they fade, artificial flowers when they start looking shabby from the weather, etc. There has been a major cleaning this week so please don't be surprised that flowers that have been there for over a year are now gone. Please keep the sites tidy. Also, Solar lights are not allowed anywhere other than at the headstone area. Do not line the grave with anything as it interferes with the mowing. Please help with keeping the cemetery the beautiful emerald Isle that is! We are having many funerals and services right now. The crew will be mowing a section every day to maintain and we may be watering during the day if necessary but will be under a water restriction (not yet) due to the drought so be prepared for that also. Another reminder, alcohol use/drug use is strictly prohibited within the cemetery boundaries and will be reported or you will be asked to stop/and leave the cemetery.
May 6 2022: Due to weather concerns location of meeting will be changed to Truckee Donner Historical Society Cabin, 10115 Donner Trail Road at 5:00pm on May 9.
March 26, 2022: Plans are in the process for us to have a full Memorial Day Ceremony! Stay tuned!
March 26, 2022: The gates are now open for the season. They will be closed at Dusk if we start having any issues. Please be aware that the grounds are very wet and will be for at least the next two weeks, weather dependent. We are looking to hire part-time seasonal workers and will be posting the information soon. In the meantime our caretaker will be working on cleanup. All old flowers will be removed in the next week, if you have any personal items at a site that have gotten broken or are glass and not on concrete they will also be removed. Personal items can be found at the information board next to the Recorder's office at the back (West end) of the cemetery. Please remember GLASS is not allowed at a site and is only permitted to stay if it is safely on concrete surrounding the headstone.
April 3, 2021: A change in District Policy. Over the winter several items in our policies and procedure have been reviewed and revised. One of the main items is the consumption of alcohol on the cemetery grounds. Alcohol is no longer permitted on cemetery grounds and if there will be signage placed in various locations to remind everyone of that. In discussions with our attorney and insurance reps is has become apparent that with the uptick in use at our location we are becoming more and more liable for injury and damages caused. It is unfortunate that we need to take this stand but an example of our concern has we just emptied our garbage cans and one of them was full of beer bottles. Thank you for at least putting them into the trash cans but it shows how much is being consumed on the grounds. Any alcohol left at a gravesite will be removed and thrown away. Thank you for understanding.
April 1, 2021: With the continued warm weather we will be opening the gate during daylight hours for visitations. Please realize that the grounds are very wet and if you clean snow off of a site, please do so with caution. Please adhere to the rules and regulations regarding flowers and other items left on the grave; glass containers are not allowed and any items that are outside of the limitations of the site will be removed when the landscaping starts next month. This would include solar lighting that is left anywhere other than at the headstone area. Any personal items removed from a site will be left on the shelf of the information board in front of the Archivist/Recorder office to the West end of the cemetery, please check there for pickup.
March 1, 2021: Our cemetery is typically closed during active winter months. We do not open for full access until May 1 or when the snow melts. This is for protection of the cemetery grounds and the protection of the public from walking on snow covered areas where obstacles cannot be seen. We have tried to be accommodating with dry winter months by leaving the gates open for access and visitations. This has created an issue for the district as it has become expected that the gates will be open. During our next meeting on March 8, there will be a discussion to revise our policies or reiterate to the public what the policy is and has been for many years. With the uptick of population and burials this has become something to be discussed. We do not have full-time employees in our caretaker/landscape/land management section and therefore would have to make special arrangements to allow access for individual celebrations or events. This would include additional costs to the public for special winter access.
Update: All active burial areas have been marked. This means by using records of funerals and burial books any unmarked grave now has a temporary marker. We have had incidents of people not realizing someone else was buried at a site. Please contact us for clarification if this has occurred for you. If you feel a site has been marked incorrectly or you have a name that doesn't have a marker, please contact us so we may research your information. In the near future there will be a new drop down area which will hold our policies regarding Descendant use (who may be buried in a site after the primary burial), Forms used to assure there are not issues regarding future burials, (i.e. the purchaser can determine if anyone else would be able to be buried.) and any other types of forms that are needed.

Information:
There is a continuing project occurring which involves the use of In Ground Radar for the cemetery properties. All areas, including the "Old Catholic" Cemetery will be scanned and mapped. Once this is completed there will be a marking program for the plots. The district has a requirement that a Headstone be placed at a site within a year of burial. If family can be located for burials within the past 5 years, a request will be made to comply with that standard. There will be a uniform marker system created for all other burials. If you have family here and they do not have a proper maker; please be aware that the cemetery provided marker will not be a headstone but a simple place holder for recording purposes.
